Leafscript: Plash (言の葉のプラッシュ)

‘Leafscript: Plash’ is an AI-equipped frame-style artwork. Unlike “Talking Tree” and “Encourage Shrine,” where humans interacted with visitors, this exhibit faced constraints due to its limited duration and the extensive effort required from those  running it. Additionally, being outdoor exhibits, they were subject to cancellation during inclement weather. To overcome these challenges, the rapidly evolving large-scale natural language processing model, Chat GPT (gpt-3.5-turbo-1106), was employed. This piece, designed for indoor use, not only enhances interior aesthetics and can be enjoyed as background music, but it also acts as a conversational companion. It features a leaf-like character named Plash, who appears on the screen and begins to converse when someone approaches. This interaction is enabled through facial recognition technology. Plash engages with visitors on a range of topics, including personal and professional concerns. By pressing a central button, visitors can speak to Plash, and their voice is transmitted to it. The artwork dynamically responds to Plash’s mood: positive emotions trigger the blooming of positive flowers, while negative emotions lead to negative flowers. These mood shifts also alter the music and visuals of the piece. Visitors can enrich their experience by attentively listening to Plash’s concerns and offering encouragement when needed.
